Google Vids Can Turn Docs, PDFs and Word Files Into Video Summaries

Google Vids can now turn Google Docs, PDFs and Word files into video summaries, giving users a faster way to work through long documents. Google announced the feature on September 2, saying Vids can use AI to generate a script and narration while adding custom visuals to the finished video.

The feature is aimed at documents such as training material, meeting notes, reports and other text-heavy files. Instead of reading the entire file first, users can turn the content into a shorter video designed to surface the main points.

How Google Vids video summaries work

Google’s Help documentation says the workflow starts inside Google Vids. From the File menu, users choose Convert Docs and select a .doc, .docx or .pdf file. Vids then creates a script in which each document section becomes a scene.

• Review the generated script before creating the video.
• Delete sections or edit the text for individual scenes.
• Choose an AI voiceover.
• Generate the video, then edit, share or export it.

That review step is important because the generated video is not a fixed one-click summary. Users can remove sections, change the script and select the voice used for narration before generating the final result. Google’s documentation also says the finished video can be edited, shared or exported.

Who can use the new Google Vids feature

Google says the feature requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan. It is available across Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; Education Plus; Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra; Nonprofits; and some education add-ons.

The rollout is also staged. Google says the feature is available now for Rapid Release domains, while Scheduled Release domains began a gradual rollout of up to 15 days on September 5, 2026. There is no separate admin control or end-user setting for the feature.

Another step in Google’s AI push for Workspace

Google Vids is becoming a broader AI video workspace rather than just a traditional editor. Its existing tools include AI voiceovers, generated video clips, image generation and Slides-to-Vids conversion. Google has also been adding other AI creation tools across Workspace, including Google Pics, its AI design tool for Workspace.

For people who regularly deal with long reports, documentation or meeting material, the new document-to-video option gives Google Vids a more direct summarization workflow. The main limitation is access: the feature requires an eligible plan, and rollout timing depends on the type of Workspace release domain.

Google says the feature is available now through Google Vids for supported accounts. The company’s official Help page provides the current steps for creating summary videos from documents.
