WhatsApp AI content label is now rolling out to Channels on iOS, giving channel admins a way to disclose when images, videos, or other media in an update were created or edited with AI tools. WABetaInfo reports that the feature is available to some beta testers using WhatsApp for iOS 26.34.10.70 through TestFlight.

The feature brings the same disclosure tool to iPhone that WhatsApp has started rolling out on Android. It is intended to make AI involvement visible to channel followers rather than leaving them to guess how a piece of media was created.

How the WhatsApp AI content label works

When the option is available, a channel admin can open an update's context menu and select Add AI content label. After the admin confirms the action, the label is shown on the update to people viewing the channel. WABetaInfo says the label cannot be removed after it has been added.

The disclosure applies to AI tools generally, not only Meta's own AI systems. WABetaInfo says WhatsApp defines the covered content as images, videos, or other media made or edited with AI tools, including tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. In some countries, channel admins may also be required to disclose AI-generated media under local rules.

WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually, so installing the compatible iOS beta does not guarantee that the label is available on every account. WABetaInfo says admins can see a banner at the top of the channel interface when the feature has been enabled for them. WhatsApp has not announced a broader rollout date.

The update adds another transparency control to WhatsApp Channels as Meta expands AI-powered creation tools across its apps. Saganote previously covered Meta's Muse AI image generator, which is also available through WhatsApp.

For now, the WhatsApp AI content label remains a gradual iOS rollout. The immediate change is for channel admins and followers: AI-generated or AI-edited media can carry a visible disclosure instead of appearing without any indication of AI involvement.
