Apple smart glasses are targeting a WWDC 2027 reveal, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, with privacy as the central hardware and software theme. Shipments to customers are planned for late 2027. No price or final spec list has been confirmed.

Writing in his Power On newsletter, Gurman reports Apple is prototyping "a slew of new hardware and software-related privacy features" that do not exist on any current Apple product. Gurman did not name specific features. Apple's marketing, he says, will likely position the glasses as a privacy-first alternative to Meta Ray-Bans - a product category where Meta's data reputation has been a persistent liability since the first generation shipped.

Apple Weighed Shipping the Glasses With No Camera at All

Camera policy has been a genuine internal debate inside Apple's hardware teams. Apple considered building glasses that support AI features but cannot take photos or record video - a meaningful trade-off given that recording is central to how most Meta Ray-Ban users actually use the product. Some prototypes went further. Apple built versions with no camera system at all. Privacy as a differentiator is a stronger pitch when the competition is Meta, whose cameras have drawn consistent public criticism since the first generation Ray-Bans launched.

Cameras will almost certainly ship with the final product, but with the privacy protections Apple is known for. No camera-free version is likely to reach consumers. Like the Meta Ray-Bans, the glasses would carry speakers and microphones for music playback, phone calls, and Siri. At last year's WWDC, Apple rebuilt Siri with Google Gemini, expanding its on-device capabilities - the software foundation the glasses would depend on from day one.

Apple Smart Glasses Join a Wider 2027 Hardware Push

Apple smart glasses sit alongside a broader hardware refresh targeting the same year. Apple's M7 chip roadmap skips M6 Pro entirely and targets major neural-processing upgrades for 2027 - pointing toward on-device AI workloads rather than cloud reliance. iOS 27 already ships with a rebuilt Siri and expanded Apple Intelligence features, building the software layer the glasses would need. Both target 2027.

Meta has shipped multiple Ray-Ban generations and holds an early lead in consumer smart glasses adoption. Apple has not confirmed pricing. Neither the camera specs nor the final privacy feature list for Apple smart glasses has been publicly addressed by the company. A June 2027 WWDC reveal puts Apple on roughly a 12-month runway to its planned ship date.
