Cursor Launches ₹649 India-Only Plan With Grok 4.5 and UPI Payments

Cursor Start India launches today at that price - about $7 - giving Indian developers access to Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5, backed by UPI billing that makes this the first time Cursor has charged in rupees. Developers can pay through UPI, credit, or debit cards. At that tier, Start sits between the free Hobby plan and Cursor's $20-a-month Pro subscription.
Between the Hobby and Pro tiers, Cursor Start India slots in with a specific set of inclusions and exclusions. Grok 4.5 is in. So are Composer 2.5, cloud agents, the iOS app that launched in June, MCP servers, plugins, hooks, and skills. Start does not include frontier models from OpenAI or Anthropic, Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, or the Cursor SDK - developers who need GPT-5.6 or Claude Fable 5 inside Cursor still need the full Pro plan.
India Becomes Cursor's First Market for Localized Pricing After Its User Base Tripled
India now ranks as Cursor's third-largest market globally. Over 3 million developers use the platform there, a number that more than tripled over the past year. More than 2 million developers joined GitHub in India during 2026 alone, bringing the country's total to 27 million - second only to the US. Indian developers run more agent requests per person than any other country, per Cursor - making Cursor India pricing a strategic priority rather than a regional experiment.
Cursor Start Runs on Its Own Models to Keep the Price Commercially Viable
₹649 a month works because Start runs on Cursor's own model stack rather than paying per-token costs to third-party labs. Grok 4.5 is Cursor's most capable in-house model. Composer 2.5 is the price-efficient option. Cursor's head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, Simon Green, told TechCrunch Cursor designed the plan for commercial sustainability from day one - not as a loss leader. At one-third the global Pro price, the model trade-off makes sense for developers who were never going to pay $20 a month in the first place.
SpaceX agreed to acquire Cursor for $60 billion in June, pending regulatory approval. Closing is expected in Q3. Cursor Start India was already in development before the acquisition announcement, and Cursor is also building out local staff - its first India-based salesperson has joined, with a second hire planned in Delhi alongside a government affairs office and three technical support roles. After the deal closes, SpaceX's Starlink footprint in India could help Cursor reduce operational barriers in the market - though Cursor will continue operating independently until then.
OpenAI set this playbook by launching ChatGPT Go in India at under $5, then expanding the localized subscription to 16 countries across Asia. Anthropic followed with India-specific Claude pricing earlier this month. Cursor is the third major AI provider to localize pricing for the market. No other country has a confirmed Cursor Start date.
