Google's Fitbit Air Gets a Pokémon Sleep Edition
The screenless tracker now turns sleep data into Pokémon Sleep progress, with preorders open ahead of a September 15 launch.
Google has announced the Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep, a new version of its screenless sleep tracker that connects real-world sleep tracking with the Pokémon Sleep game. Preorders are open through the Google Store and Target, with shipping starting September 15. The special edition is available in the US and Japan.
The hardware is based on the existing Fitbit Air, but the new model comes in Sleepy Blue and has a sleeping Pikachu label on the band. Google is also including a three-month Google Health Premium trial with the purchase. The device is intended for people aged 13 and older.
How Fitbit Air Pokémon Sleep Works
The interesting part is the connection between Google's sleep tracking and the game. Fitbit Air records sleep duration and sleep stages through Google Health. On Android, the data moves through Health Connect, while iPhone users can use Apple Health. Pokémon Sleep then uses the synced sleep data to drive its in-game sleep research.

Google Health Handles the Sleep Tracking
Fitbit Air itself has no screen, so the health information lives in Google's phone-based health software. Google says its Health app tracks light and deep sleep stages and can turn the data into sleep guidance. The special-edition purchase also includes three months of Google Health Premium.

Availability and iPhone Support
The Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep is available for preorder in the US and Japan, with shipping beginning September 15. Google says the Pokémon Sleep app is available on iOS and Android.
The Pokémon Sleep team also announced on August 27 that Fitbit sleep data can now be used for Pokémon Sleep on iOS, expanding the integration beyond its earlier Android-only support.
