Google Launches Universal Cart Across Search and Gemini in the US

The new cart saves products across retailers, tracks price drops, and offers checkout options through Google Pay or merchant sites.

TL;DR: Google Universal Cart is rolling out in the US across Search and Gemini, combining products from multiple retailers with price alerts, promo codes, and supported checkout options.

Google has launched Universal Cart in the United States across Google Search and the Gemini app. The feature lets shoppers save products from different retailers in one place, monitor price and stock changes, find relevant promo codes, and get payment-method suggestions based on eligible card benefits.

What Google Universal Cart can do

Universal Cart keeps shopping progress available across supported Google experiences. For example, a shopper can save one product while browsing AI Mode in Search and add other items through Gemini, then return to the same cart later.

  • Save products across retailers: Keep items from different stores together instead of relying on separate tabs or screenshots.
  • Track price and stock changes: Receive notifications when a saved product drops in price or becomes available again.
  • Find possible savings: View relevant promo codes and suggestions based on payment-card benefits supported through Google Wallet.
  • Choose how to check out: Use Google Pay with participating merchants or transfer items to a retailer's website to complete the purchase.

Google says the feature draws on its Shopping Graph, which contains more than 60 billion continually refreshed product listings. Participating checkout merchants include Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair, and merchants using Shopify. Availability and checkout options can vary by merchant.

Checkout still involves retailers

Universal Cart does not replace the retailer. Customers can complete eligible purchases through Google Pay or continue on the merchant's own website. Retailers remain the seller of record and handle order confirmations and customer support.

The launch follows Google's broader push to add actions to its AI products. Google has also been expanding Gemini features in Chrome and testing ways for Gemini in Google Maps to help users place food orders. Those features show how Google is connecting AI-assisted discovery with tasks users may want to complete.
