Spotify Memberships Let Podcasters Keep 90% of Revenue From Paid Fans

The new option lets eligible shows sell bonus content, early access, and other perks across 34 markets.

Spotify Memberships are rolling out in 34 markets, giving eligible podcast creators another way to earn recurring revenue directly from fans. Creators can offer paid perks such as exclusive audio or video, early access, fewer ads, and access to a show's archive, while keeping 90% of the membership revenue they generate before applicable taxes.

The feature is available to eligible shows hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone. To qualify, a show needs at least three published episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 consumption hours on Spotify during the previous 30 days. Spotify says creators can set up Memberships through Spotify for Creators or Megaphone.

Memberships add another revenue stream for podcasters

Creators can group benefits into multiple tiers and pricing options, so a membership does not have to mean one fixed bundle of bonus episodes. Spotify also offers targeted promotions, free trials, and analytics to help creators understand what drives sign-ups. Fans can find membership offers on a show's Spotify page and access members-only content on the platform.

Spotify says creators can export member data, including contact information from fans who choose to share it. That gives creators a way to maintain some audience information beyond the platform, although it does not remove their reliance on Spotify for discovery and content access.

Memberships join advertising, sponsorships, and the Spotify Partner Program as ways to earn from podcasting. The model also arrives as platforms compete for creator relationships: Threads podcast tools help creators promote episodes and reach listeners, while YouTube has adjusted the requirements for joining its Partner Program.

Spotify's initial rollout covers 34 markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and several European markets. The feature is not available everywhere, and eligibility depends on a show's hosting setup and recent audience activity. Spotify's launch announcement lists the rollout markets and eligibility rules. Its Memberships fee schedule says the standard platform fee is 10% of net earnings, with taxes deducted where applicable.
