Apple has announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with the new Pro models adding a variable-aperture main camera, A20 Pro chip, longer battery life, and a smaller Dynamic Island.

Both models keep 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays. Apple says the 48MP Fusion Main camera now uses variable aperture, while new Pro controls let users adjust aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and exposure.

TL;DR

  • iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the U.S., while iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.
  • Both models get a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.
  • A20 Pro and a larger vapor chamber are designed to improve sustained performance.
  • Pre-orders start September 12, with availability beginning September 18.

Camera and performance upgrades

Apple says the variable-aperture system can automatically adjust for lighting and depth of field. The A20 Pro includes a 32-core Neural Engine, and Apple says sustained performance can be up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The new vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the previous generation.

Battery life also gets a major update. Apple rates eSIM-only models for up to 36 hours of video playback on iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on iPhone 18 Pro Max. The iPhone 18 Pro can also reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes.

The phones run iOS 27 and include the next generation of Apple Intelligence, including Siri AI, which is rolling out in beta. Siri AI can use personal context and onscreen awareness to help with tasks across apps.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max come in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy, with storage options from 256GB to 2TB.

Pre-orders begin September 12 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with availability starting September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions.
