Claude Cowork Is Now Claude: What Changes for Claude Users
Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and chat so larger tasks can start in the same conversation.
Claude Cowork is becoming part of Claude
Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and regular chat into one Claude experience. The company says users will no longer need to decide whether a task belongs in chat or Cowork. Instead, Claude can handle a quick question or take on a larger job from the same conversation.
The change is rolling out to Pro and Max users first across Claude's web, desktop, and mobile apps. Anthropic says the rollout will happen over the coming weeks, with Team and Free plans to follow. Enterprise administrators will receive notice before changes reach their organizations.
What changes when you use Claude
The main change is where work happens. Anthropic says the context, skills, and connectors already available to a user can carry into larger tasks from any conversation. Users who have been working in Cowork will keep their chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills.
Anthropic also says Claude can continue working after a user closes their laptop. For example, a user could ask Claude to review pipeline activity, write a report, and turn the highlights into presentation slides from the same conversation.
Claude Docs and Slides join the same workflow
The unified Claude experience also introduces Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta on paid plans. Users can work with Claude to create documents and presentations, edit them directly, present from Claude, or download them as PowerPoint or PDF files.
Claude Design is also available inside conversations. Anthropic says work created with Design, Slides, or Docs can live at one shareable link, so users can open it from another device and continue editing.
The rollout starts with Pro and Max
This is not an immediate change for every Claude account. Anthropic says the unified experience is rolling out first to Pro and Max users on web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks. Team and Free plans will follow, while Enterprise administrators will be notified at least 30 days before changes affect their organizations.
For users already working in Cowork, Anthropic says there is nothing to turn on. Their existing chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills remain available in Claude.
Why the change matters for everyday Claude use
Anthropic built Cowork as a separate place for larger work, but says users found it frustrating to decide where a task belonged and to move context between different experiences. The company is removing that split by making Cowork capabilities available from regular Claude conversations.
That makes the product change less about a new standalone Cowork destination and more about a unified workflow. A user can begin with a question, expand it into a larger task, and continue working with the same context instead of choosing a separate mode first.
Anthropic's earlier memory update also connected Claude chat and Cowork memory, allowing context from chats and Cowork tasks to carry between the two. The new announcement takes that broader integration further by merging the two experiences. Claude's shared memory update provides related context.
