What's New in Calendar in iOS 27: Type an Event, Apple Intelligence Does the Rest
Apple Calendar finally gets natural language event creation in iOS 27 - a feature Fantastical users have had for years and that Apple now bakes in for everyone.
iOS 27 Calendar adds natural language event creation - the feature third-party apps like Fantastical have offered for years. Type a plain-language description and iOS 27 Calendar uses Apple Intelligence to detect the time, location, and attendees, then fills them in automatically. This is part of a broader set of iOS 27 system app updates shipping this fall.

Natural Language Event Creation
Type something like "Work meeting at 3pm" and Calendar changes the event time to 3 p.m. automatically. Add a name or a place - "Coffee with Mark at Starbucks" - and suggestions appear in the keyboard row to add the contact as an invitee or set the location, or leave both in the event title if you prefer. Nothing is forced.
Edit the description and Calendar updates the details to match. Change "lunch meeting" to "coffee chat" and the event type adjusts. Natural language input also works when creating reminders inside Calendar, so the same typing behavior extends to your task list. This feature requires Apple Intelligence and is available on iPhone 15 Pro or later, and iPhone 16 or later.
Why This Matters
Fantastical, the most popular third-party calendar app on iPhone, built its reputation almost entirely on this feature. Typing a full event in one sentence - time, people, place - without drilling into separate fields is faster for everyone who types quickly and thinks in sentences rather than forms. Apple arriving here with a native solution closes the gap that kept many users paying $5 a month for Fantastical just for this one capability.
Apple has not announced additional Calendar changes in iOS 27 beyond natural language creation and its extension to Reminders. What's new in Maps in iOS 27 and what's new in Wallet in iOS 27 cover two more major updates in the same release - Maps gains AI-enhanced Flyover and Local Lists, Wallet gains a pass creator and receipt-to-payment tool.
