Apple Maps Ads Are Now Rolling Out on iPhone in US and Canada
Sponsored listings are appearing in Suggested Places and relevant search results as Apple expands Maps advertising across the US and Canada.
Apple Maps ads are now appearing for users in the US and Canada, according to Apple's confirmation reported by 9to5Mac. The rollout follows Apple's March announcement that Maps advertising would become part of Apple Business.
The change puts paid business listings directly inside an app people already use to find restaurants, stores, services, and other places. Apple says the initial rollout will expand further in the coming weeks.

Apple Maps Ads Can Appear in Suggested Places and Search Results
Maps can show a sponsored listing before a user searches through the Suggested Places area. Paid placements can also appear at the top of relevant search results when a business has purchased an eligible placement.
Apple labels paid listings with an "Ad" marker so they can be distinguished from ordinary results. Advertisers do not choose an exact position in Maps; Apple's system determines where an eligible ad appears based on the search and business context.
The rollout builds on the broader Maps changes Apple introduced with iOS 27. Saganote previously covered the new Maps features in iOS 27, including Suggested Places, Local Lists, and changes to search and navigation. Saganote also covered the broader iOS 27 update.
Apple Says Maps Ads Use Contextual Signals
Apple says Maps ads use signals such as search terms, the visible map area, and approximate device location during the session. Apple says precise location, Maps interaction history, age, and gender are not used to target these ads.
Apple also says Maps activity and ad interactions are not associated with a user's Apple Account. Its advertising privacy documentation describes a rotating random identifier for ad interactions rather than a persistent account-linked identifier.
Businesses Can Buy Apple Maps Ads Through Apple Ads
Businesses can create Maps campaigns through Apple's advertising platform. Apple's Maps advertising documentation describes the available placements and the information businesses can use when setting up campaigns.
Apple introduced Maps advertising through Apple Business in March, initially targeting businesses in the US and Canada. Apple's advertising policies also place restrictions on some categories, including home services, bail bonds, and cryptocurrency ATMs.
Apple Maps Ads Are Expanding During the Current Rollout
Apple has not announced a separate user setting for removing Maps ads. Users in the US and Canada should expect sponsored listings to become more visible as the rollout expands.
The launch also gives Apple another advertising surface inside a high-intent product. Someone searching Maps for a nearby business is already looking for a place to visit or a service to use, making the placement more commercially direct than a conventional display ad.
