Googlebook Pre-Orders Open at $899 With Gemini Built Into the Laptop

Google has opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new category of premium laptops built around Gemini Intelligence. Prices start at $899, with the first devices scheduled to reach stores in October.

Googlebook combines the Android technology stack with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Google says the platform is designed to work closely with Android phones while bringing Gemini features directly into the laptop experience.

Googlebook Starts at $899

The first Googlebook lineup comes from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Google says the models use premium materials and offer displays up to 2.8K OLED, haptic glass trackpads, and processors from Intel and Qualcomm.

The laptops start with 16GB of RAM, while some models offer up to 32GB. Google also says the launch processors include Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite chips paired with NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance.

Battery life is rated at up to 14 hours of video playback and up to 16 hours of web browsing, depending on the model. Google says the first devices will be available in the U.S. on October 4, followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.

Gemini Is Built Into the Laptop

Googlebook is not simply a new name for a Chromebook. Google is positioning the platform around what it calls Gemini Intelligence, with AI features integrated into the desktop experience.

One of the main features is Magic Pointer. A quick movement of the cursor brings Gemini into the area where you are working. Google says Magic Pointer can understand text, images, and context, allowing users to work with Gemini without leaving the current task.

Another feature is Rambler, a voice-dictation tool that turns an unstructured spoken thought into organized text. Google says Rambler can clean up errors, structure action items, and handle multilingual speech.

Googlebook also includes Gemini Live, task automations, proactive suggestions, and Gemini Spark. Google says Gemini Spark can continue processing complex requests in the background even after the laptop is closed.

Googlebook Connects to Android Phones

The other major part of the Googlebook pitch is the connection between the laptop and an Android phone. Google says setup can transfer phone settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages to the laptop with end-to-end encryption.

Continue On lets users pick up certain tasks from their phone on Googlebook. The Files app can access files and photos from the phone, while Cast My Apps lets users stream and interact with phone apps inside a desktop window.

Five Laptop Makers Are Launching Googlebook Models

Google is starting with five hardware partners rather than a single first-party laptop. Acer's model is a convertible, ASUS is offering a 2.2-pound design aimed at portability, Dell is targeting a more traditional premium configuration, and HP is emphasizing its design. Lenovo is also part of the launch lineup.

Google Is Bundling AI Pro With Every Googlebook

Every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, which Google says includes 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools. Buyers also get three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, among other bundled services.

The software is also designed for longer-term updates. Google says Googlebook OS will receive regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.

Googlebook Also Targets AI Developers

Google is not positioning Googlebook only as a consumer laptop. The devices include Antigravity, Google's AI agent development platform, and developers get access to a full Linux terminal environment.

Google says developers can use tools such as Claude Code or Antigravity CLI and run autonomous agents locally. The platform also includes a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor for an isolated Linux environment.

That developer focus gives Googlebook a different role from the budget Chromebook category Google has built over the years. The company is trying to combine Android apps, desktop software, local AI hardware, Linux development, and Gemini features in one laptop platform.

What Googlebook Means for Chrome and Gemini

Googlebook arrives as Google expands Gemini beyond a standalone chatbot. Gemini is increasingly being placed inside Android, Chrome, and other Google products so that it can work with the context of what users are already doing.
