Meta Lets AI Agents Set Up WhatsApp Business Through a New MCP Server
Meta's new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP connects coding agents to account setup, templates, webhooks, and testing.
Meta has introduced WhatsApp Business MCP, a new Model Context Protocol server that connects AI coding agents to the WhatsApp Business Platform. Instead of moving between Meta's Developer Console, Business Manager, API documentation, and a code editor, developers can describe the setup they need and let a connected agent handle supported tasks.
What WhatsApp Business MCP can handle
The new WhatsApp Business MCP is designed for the setup and configuration work that normally requires several Meta tools. An AI coding agent can create a WhatsApp Business account, add and verify a phone number, register it for Cloud API access, and check whether required business settings are in place.

Meta is adding an agent layer to its developer tools
WhatsApp Business MCP is narrower than Meta's broader Meta Social Technologies MCP. The broader server can help developers discover Graph API endpoints, search Meta documentation, inspect configurations, and troubleshoot errors. Meta says the two can be used together during WhatsApp Business setup.
The approach fits Meta's recent push to put more developer work behind AI agents. Meta has also launched Muse Code, an AI coding agent for large codebases and opened its first developer API with Muse Spark 1.1. The new WhatsApp tool applies a similar agent workflow to business messaging configuration rather than general coding.
Access is controlled by the connected user
The new server does not simply hand an AI agent unrestricted access to every business associated with a developer. The connected person selects the businesses the agent can access, and Meta says the agent operates using that person's access. Tool invocations are logged, while state-changing actions require an authenticated person rather than an app-level credential.
Meta is rolling out WhatsApp Business MCP gradually, so availability can vary. The interface and tools are also in beta and may change as Meta continues developing the service.
