The OnePlus 16 rear lights are no longer just a launch promise. New hands-on videos from China show the phone’s “Interstellar Lighting Effect” working across three separate areas of the back, giving the Tomorrow’s Starlight version a notification system that can be seen without looking at the display. The feature is designed for alerts such as calls, messages, and game-related events, although the available footage does not confirm every advertised trigger.

The rear panel is split into three light zones

The lighting is built into specific markings on the Tomorrow’s Starlight rear panel rather than appearing as a conventional strip around the camera. Hands-on footage shows three illuminated sections: a star-shaped mark near the upper-right side, the “16 AREA” marking near the lower-left, and a set of coordinates on the lower-right. The surrounding topographic lines remain decorative rather than illuminated.

Only one OnePlus 16 color gets the lighting

The Interstellar Lighting Effect is tied to Tomorrow’s Starlight. The other announced OnePlus 16 colorways, Dark Forest and Martian Masterpiece, do not appear to include the exterior lighting hardware. That makes the feature part of the specific design treatment rather than a capability shared across the entire lineup.
