Apple Plans iPhone Clipboard Sharing With Windows PCs in the EU
Apple has confirmed plans to bring clipboard sharing between iPhones and Windows PCs as part of its EU interoperability roadmap, expanding cross-platform integration beyond the Apple ecosystem.
Apple is preparing to bring iPhone clipboard sharing to Windows PCs, marking one of its biggest cross-platform interoperability changes yet.
The company has accepted Microsoft's request under the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) and added the feature to its official interoperability roadmap. Once available, users will be able to copy supported content between an iPhone and a paired Windows PC with far fewer manual steps than today.

What Microsoft Asked Apple to Add
The clipboard-sharing feature wasn't proposed by Apple. It was requested by Microsoft through Apple's interoperability request system created to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act. According to Apple's published roadmap, Microsoft wants clipboard sharing to work in the background with fewer manual steps.
Microsoft's proposal includes:
- Copy text and other supported content from an iPhone directly to a Windows PC.
- Paste supported clipboard content back from a Windows PC to an iPhone.
- Keep clipboard synchronization running continuously instead of requiring users to manually initiate every transfer.
- Reduce the need to switch apps or repeatedly grant clipboard access during everyday workflows.
Users will need to grant one-time permission before a paired Windows PC can access clipboard sharing from an iPhone.
Apple says clipboard sharing will use a permission-based system similar to the framework it introduced for third-party accessories in the EU. After users grant one-time consent, paired Windows PCs will be able to access shared clipboard content without requiring approval for every copy-and-paste action.
