Google Health 5.08 Requires a Google Account as Fitbit Logins End
The update closes the old Fitbit login path while Google continues working through Health Coach improvements.
Google Health 5.08 is now rolling out on Android and is fully available on iOS, and the update closes the old Fitbit account sign-in path. A Google Account is now required to use the Google Health app because the Fitbit account migration period has ended. Google says Fitbit account logins are no longer supported and unmigrated data will be deleted.
The release also fixes a sign-up problem for people whose email addresses were previously associated with Fitbit. They can now choose their preferred Google Account to sign in, even if that email address was once used for a Fitbit account. Google also lists general stability improvements and bug fixes in the 5.08 release.
What Google Health 5.08 changes
- Fitbit account logins are no longer supported in Google Health.
- A Google Account is required to use the app.
- Unmigrated Fitbit data will be deleted now that the migration period has ended.
- Email addresses previously linked to Fitbit can be used with a preferred Google Account during sign-in.
- The release includes general stability improvements and bug fixes.
The account change follows Google's May transition from the Fitbit app to Google Health. The company said existing Fitbit users would move to the new app automatically, while the redesigned Google Health experience would bring health and wellness data into one place. Google's original Google Health announcement described that transition.
Google Health 5.08 also arrives after Google published a roadmap for fixes and improvements based on feedback from the app's Public Preview. That roadmap covered exercise tracking, nutrition, sleep, dashboards, data sharing, account migration and Google Health Coach. Google later marked many of those items as done, while the remaining work highlighted in the latest reporting is centered on the Health Coach. Google's roadmap update remains the primary source for those planned improvements.
Health Coach remains the main work in progress
Google's roadmap called for shorter and more focused Coach messages, more charts and other visual information, and better decisions about which activities should trigger a message. It also listed improvements to Ask Coach, including better intent handling, fewer unnecessary non-answers, and support for actions such as deleting logs and recording core body temperature.
The roadmap also included a return of more structured weekly fitness schedules later in 2026 for people who prefer a fixed routine. Google Health 5.08 does not announce those changes as part of this release, so they should be treated as roadmap items rather than features newly available in version 5.08.
For context, Google Health 5.06 previously added controls for managing the AI Coach in the Today tab, including the ability to hide it. Google Health 5.06 Lets You Hide the AI Coach From Your Today Tab covers that earlier change.
Google Health 5.08 is a small release in terms of new features, but an important account-migration milestone. Android availability is still rolling out, while the iOS release is already fully available.
